Magherafelt Walks & Talks offers a variety of experiences, tailored to the client’s needs, from walking tours to commentary on car/coach tours.
We welcome enquiries from individuals, groups, historical societies and schools.
Guided history tours of Belfast are available on request.
Historical talks are provided to local groups and societies.
We can also assist with Family History research in the South Derry area.
Walks of Magherafelt town are very popular, in particular the walk around the former Magherafelt workhouse grounds and cemeteries. The town walk includes the old courthouse, the three church spires, the old market yard, the bridewell/prison cells, flax market, historic broad street and market square.
The Seamus Heaney tour includes notable places – his home in Mossbawn, his school Annahorish, River Moyola, Devlin’s blacksmith shop, the strand at Lough Beg, the turfman in Bellaghy and then ending at his burial place near St Mary’s Church in his beloved Bellaghy. Many of the above sites feature in his poems.
